The need for a robust, maintenance-free fixture capable of withstanding heavy use led to the development of the iconic SP fixture in 1935 by Otto Sparre-Petersen, an engineer and chief mechanic at Gentofte Hospital in Copenhagen. With its classic design, organic form, and near-indestructible quality, it has since become known as both the industrial fixture and the "Rolls-Royce of fixtures". For this reason, it has been used across the globe for decades, in places ranging from hospitals and embassies to private homes.
