Nestled by the salt marshes of West Zealand, Bjarke Ingels' cottage, aptly named Fjordglimt, captures the essence of quiet luxury. It's a home that combines modern design with nostalgic charm, located on the border between land and water. Here the sun casts its golden rays over the marsh at dawn, with light seeping through mist and reeds.
While Ingels is known for his visionary projects worldwide, Fjordglimt shows a more intimate side of the architect - a retreat where design meets warmth and simplicity. The cabin exudes a calming energy and offers a kind of rest that can only be found in spaces created with intention. Every detail, from the vintage sockets lacquered to match the walls, to the built-in sofas and carefully placed desk, reflects a respect for function, beauty and materiality.
The house's color palette of deep greens, muted reds and soft brass details further emphasizes its timeless appeal. Ingels has curated the spaces to feel both homely and tactile, embracing the patina of time while remaining contemporary. This is evident in the kitchen - the centerpiece of the home, where craftsmanship and design merge. Here sits an early version of the DÉCA faucet, designed by Ingels in collaboration with TONI Copenhagen. The patinated brass finish harmonizes with the nostalgic atmosphere of the kitchen, surrounded by vintage shelving and carefully selected details.
In the bathrooms, this harmony continues. Green tiles combined with brass fixtures create an experience that feels both modern and timeless. The clean lines and meticulous detailing of the shower reflect the overall spirit of the house: a place where every element serves a purpose while adding beauty. The exposed wooden beams and paneled walls add a complementary contrast, anchoring the space with natural warmth and texture.
Ingels' cottage is a thoughtful exploration of what a home can be, reminding us that design at its best is about creating spaces that elevate the everyday - where comfort and intention coexist.
