Pine House

On the northern side of Hallandsåsen in southwestern Sweden lies Pine House — a newly built cottage overlooking a plot that has been left untouched for decades.

The house was designed by Swedish architect Johan Sundberg for Cathrine Raben Davidsen, Jens Lindegaard and their two children. The vision was to create generous, open spaces where nature plays an active role in everyday life. There is no TV or art on the walls — the view is the central focus and acts as the visual and atmospheric focal point of the house.

Sundberg often works with subtle references to Japanese tea houses. In Pine House, this appears in the wide terraces that wrap around the building and the large windows that soften the line between indoors and outdoors.

The choice of materials is careful and deliberate, giving the house a calm but distinct character. The open fireplace is built from water-struck bricks by Petersen Tegl, the fixtures are made in burnished brass, and both the interior and exterior walls are clad in pine. Together, these materials create a simple but layered sensory experience that will develop naturally over time as they patinate and shift in tone.
