Edvard Thomsen's glass brick house

In Frederiksberg, Copenhagen, stands a striking property with eight apartments, distinguished by its characteristic glass brick façade. The building was constructed in 1939 by Danish architect Edvard Thomsen and today stands as a modernist landmark.

One of the apartments is home to Canadian-born architect Isabella Priddle, whose home has been carefully restored with respect for the original floor plan. The rooms are characterized by calm, subdued shades that create a quiet and effortless atmosphere. Most of the furniture and objects are handmade by Isabella herself or by friends and family, and they fit naturally into the architecture of the building, while adding a personal narrative to the home.

The residence manages to combine history with everyday life and exudes both warmth and hospitality within the clear lines of modernism. In the kitchen, the original teak cabinets and countertops have been preserved in their original design. Today, the timeless interior is given a discreet lift by afaucet, mounted on the existing pipes in accordance with strict preservation requirements.

Every detail, from carefully selected tableware to surfaces and materials, reflects a balance between function and care. Throughout the apartment, Isabella respects the original concept of the building while adding subtle, modern touches. The home thus becomes a quiet interplay across time, where past and present meet and influence each other without taking space away from each other. The result is a home that feels lived in and deliberate, solidly anchored in history and yet entirely its own.
