Kyle Cottage, a renovated stone house, is part of WildLand, an ambitious landscape-scale conservation effort with the aim of restoring, protecting and enhancing thousands of wild land acres across the Scottish Highlands.
Perhaps there were easier ways to turn a derelict house into a holiday cottage. But Kyle Cottage was never intended as such. Sitting in solitude in the hills, the house is a place to retreat and contemplate — to take life at your own pace. The intention of the home's design is to reflect that yearning for peace. Natural materials from the landscape set the tone. Flexible oak-lined walls and an open plan surround the carefully selected elements.
The oak kitchen is equipped with a Burnished , Built-in the wall and placed on a Burnished Brass . This creates a focal point, and together the natural surfaces are well balanced in brown tones, creating contrast and synergy at the same time.
Through the heavy front door, you are greeted by the kitchen, made of Danish oak, and a living room full of historical design. Both the kitchen and the living room offer fantastic views of the surrounding landscape. Next to the wood-burning stove, through the large window of the living room, there is a view of the Kyle of Tongue lake. While from the kitchen table you can enjoy your coffee with a view of Ben Loyal — the mountain often called "The Queen of the Highlands."
